Yarutso Car Rental has been recognised as the No. 2 car rental company in Zimbabwe at the 2026 Association of Zimbabwe Travel Agents (AZTA) Awards — a significant milestone for a company that began in 2019 with a small fleet and an ambition to make quality car rental more accessible in Zimbabwe.
The recognition places Yarutso among the country's leading car-rental brands and provides an important industry validation of the company's seven-year journey.
For Yarutso, however, the award did not come out of nowhere.
There had been signs.
Customer reviews were growing. The fleet was expanding. International travellers were increasingly choosing the company. The digital presence was becoming stronger. The business had moved from being simply a low-cost rental operator to building a recognisable Zimbabwean mobility brand.
The AZTA result can therefore be viewed as an important recognition of momentum that had been building for several years.
Yarutso Is Now No. 2 in Zimbabwe's Car Rental Industry
Being named No. 2 Car Rental in Zimbabwe at the 2026 AZTA Awards represents Yarutso's first major industry award.
The company had previously been nominated for Best Car Rental Customer Experience by the Customer Experience Association of Zimbabwe, but did not win.
The AZTA recognition is different in an important respect: AZTA sits within Zimbabwe's travel-agent and tourism ecosystem.
AZTA was established more than 60 years ago and represents travel professionals and suppliers within Zimbabwe's tourism industry. Its stated objectives include promoting integrity and high standards of service delivered with consistency and commitment to travellers.
That makes recognition from the organisation particularly relevant to a company whose ambition is to become a leading mobility partner for Zimbabwe's tourism industry.
The Signs Were Already There
Awards can sometimes appear to arrive suddenly.
In Yarutso's case, the underlying indicators had been developing for years.
The company has grown substantially since its establishment in August 2019. Its current website lists a fleet of more than 20 rental vehicles across budget cars, SUVs, double cabs and bakkies, alongside international card payments, airport access and other mobility services.
Its customer reputation has also become increasingly visible.
Yarutso's online presence currently shows a 4.7-star Google rating with more than 460 reviews, while Tripadvisor lists Yarutso at 4.7 out of 5 and ranks it #2 among transportation businesses in Harare on its current listing.
These are not the same measurement as an AZTA award, and they should not be presented as proof of how AZTA judges its awards.
But together they illustrate something important:
Yarutso had already been building market recognition before the award arrived.
The Customer Experience Flywheel
One of the clearest explanations for Yarutso's rise is what the company calls its customer-experience flywheel.
The concept is simple:
Better service → happier customers → better reviews → greater trust → more enquiries → more bookings → more customers → more reviews.
Over time, this creates momentum.
A customer searching for a car rental company in Zimbabwe can now encounter Yarutso through several different touchpoints: Google, Tripadvisor, the company website, social media, travel-related searches, referrals and direct recommendations.
The company's review footprint has become particularly important.
Tripadvisor currently describes Yarutso as a Harare car-rental operator offering vehicles ranging from small budget cars to SUVs, trucks and bakkies, with a 4.7 rating from 23 reviews on that platform.
Recent Tripadvisor reviews also highlight themes such as smooth booking, vehicle condition, communication, professional service and reliable collection and drop-off.
For a mobility company, these are important trust signals because customers are not simply buying a product.
They are trusting another company with their transport, money, travel plans and, in many cases, their holiday.
The Fleet Has Changed the Conversation
Yarutso's growth has also been visible in its fleet.
The company began as a relatively small, affordable car-rental operation. Today, its website presents a much broader fleet proposition, including budget vehicles, SUVs and 4x4 vehicles such as the Toyota Hilux D4D and Toyota Hilux GD6.
The company has also deliberately introduced newer vehicles into the fleet, including models such as the 2026 Hyundai Tucson and 2025 Hyundai Creta.
This matters because the customer expectation has changed.
Yarutso is no longer competing only on the question:
“Can I get a car?”
It is increasingly competing on:
“Can I get the right car, in good condition, from a company I trust, at a reasonable price, with a professional experience?”
That is a much broader proposition.
Digital Visibility Became a Competitive Asset
Another sign of Yarutso's development has been its investment in digital accessibility.
The company has increasingly built its customer acquisition around Google Search, Google Business, its website, online reviews and digital advertising.
Its current website provides customers with vehicle information, online booking options and payment capabilities, including international card payments.
That is particularly relevant in international tourism.
A traveller planning a Zimbabwe trip from outside the country may never physically encounter a rental company's office before making a booking.
The first interaction may instead be:
Google → website → reviews → vehicle → booking → payment.
Yarutso has been deliberately building that digital journey.
International Customers Have Become an Important Signal
Yarutso's growth has also been supported by increasing exposure to international travellers and the Zimbabwean diaspora.
That customer segment places particular emphasis on trust.
An international visitor renting a vehicle in Zimbabwe may be making a significant payment before arriving in the country. They need confidence that:
- the company actually exists;
- the vehicle will be available;
- the vehicle will match what was advertised;
- payment will be secure;
- communication will be professional;
- collection and drop-off will work;
- and support will be available if something goes wrong.
Yarutso's investment in card payments, digital booking, newer vehicles, airport access and customer reviews is therefore strategically important.
It reduces uncertainty.
And in travel, reducing uncertainty is one of the most valuable things a service provider can do.
Why Yarutso May Have Been on the Radar
Without AZTA publicly attributing a specific score or ranking methodology to each finalist, it would be inappropriate to claim that any single factor definitively caused Yarutso's No. 2 position.
However, several visible indicators provide a credible picture of why the company may have emerged strongly in the 2026 awards.
- A growing customer reputation
More than 460 Google reviews and a 4.7-star rating provide a substantial body of public customer feedback. - Increasing fleet scale
Yarutso has grown to more than 20 rental vehicles, giving it greater capacity and a broader range of customer options than its earlier years. - A more modern fleet proposition
The company has continued adding newer vehicles, including 2025 and 2026 models. - Stronger digital accessibility
Customers can research vehicles, book online and access international card-payment options through Yarutso's digital channels. - Tourism-sector alignment
Yarutso is positioned within Zimbabwe's formal tourism ecosystem and is listed among registered tourism operators by the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority. - Seven years of operating experience
The company has now passed seven years in the Zimbabwean car-rental market, giving it a meaningful operating history since its establishment in 2019. - Evidence of real customer usage
Recent Tripadvisor reviews describe customers using Yarutso for trips around Zimbabwe, including journeys involving destinations such as Nyanga and wider road trips.
Taken together, these indicators suggest that Yarutso's recognition was consistent with a broader pattern of market development rather than being an isolated event.
From a Small Operator to a Nationally Recognised Brand
Perhaps the most significant part of the AZTA recognition is the trajectory behind it.
Yarutso was founded in 2019 by Victor Tawanda Madzedze with a simple observation: quality car rental could be difficult to access at reasonable prices.
The company started small.
The fleet was small.
The team was small.
The brand was largely unknown.
Seven years later, Yarutso has more than 20 rental vehicles, a substantial online review footprint, international customers, digital booking and payment infrastructure, airport access and a growing reputation within Zimbabwe's travel industry.
The AZTA recognition provides a marker for that progression.
From an affordable car-rental operator to one of Zimbabwe's recognised mobility brands.
What the Award Means for Yarutso
For the Yarutso team, being named No. 2 is not simply a marketing opportunity.
It is a benchmark.
The award creates a new expectation: if Yarutso wants to remain among Zimbabwe's leading car-rental companies, the company has to continue improving.
That means better vehicles.
Better availability.
Faster communication.
Better digital systems.
Stronger fleet management.
More consistent service.
And, most importantly, more satisfied customers.
The company does not see the award as the end of the journey.
It sees it as evidence that the journey is moving in the right direction.
The Award Is Recognition of Momentum — Not the Destination
The most interesting story about Yarutso's AZTA recognition may not be that the company finished No. 2.
It is how the company got there.
The signs were already visible:
A growing fleet.
A growing customer-review footprint.
A stronger digital presence.
Increasing international exposure.
Newer vehicles.
More convenient payment options.
A stronger operational structure.
Seven years of persistence.
And now, an industry recognition placing Yarutso among Zimbabwe's leading car-rental companies.
The AZTA award therefore represents more than a trophy for Yarutso.
It is a public marker of a transformation that has been taking place quietly since 2019.
From a small car-rental company focused on affordability, Yarutso is building towards something larger:
a Zimbabwean mobility brand that makes it easier for people to move around, explore and experience Zimbabwe.
And if the past seven years are any indication, the No. 2 position is not being treated as the destination.
It is the next benchmark.
